If you code as an independent contractor, or have any kind of small business activity, you know that keeping track of your time and then invoicing your clients is a painful distraction from your real work. However, presenting your clients with detailed professional looking invoices does have actual value in many ways, not the least of which is making sure you get paid for your work. I have recently started using an online tool that makes time tracking and invoicing not only easy, but damn near fun, not to mention makes me look so much better to my clients than if I tried to do this stuff the old fashioned way. The tool is FreshBooks, and it does a whole lot more than just time tracking and invoicing. It’s a web based tool, but has good support on mobile devices and an API that gives rise to a decent suite of 3rd party apps and services. You get a 30-day free trial. I’m about halfway through mine, but I will absolutely be signing up and happily paying them $19.95/month when that’s up. If you want to give them a try, please sign up through my referral page, so I can get a kick back.
